ELMORE COUNTY, Alabama — Bonifacio Angel Bartolon, a 56-year-old resident of Opelika, Alabama, died Friday morning, May 22, 2026, following a fatal single-vehicle crash in Elmore County, according to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA).

Authorities stated the collision occurred at approximately 6:52 a.m. on Rock Springs Road, about 10 miles outside Tallassee. Preliminary findings released by ALEA indicate Bartolon was a passenger in a 1996 Toyota 4Runner operated by 39-year-old Mynor Ramirez Joel Morales of Auburn when the vehicle left the roadway, overturned, and struck both a ditch and several trees. Emergency personnel responded to the scene shortly after the crash was reported. Bartolon sustained critical injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene. Morales survived the crash and was transported to Baptist Medical Center South in Montgomery for medical treatment. Officials have not released additional information regarding the extent of his injuries.

The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s Highway Patrol Division continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the collision. Investigators are working to determine what factors may have contributed to the vehicle leaving the roadway, including road conditions, speed, and possible mechanical issues.
