Grafton Shooting Today

Firefighters across Los Angeles County continued battling the rapidly developing Jasper Fire on Wednesday after flames broke out near Calabasas and Agoura Hills, sending thick smoke into the sky and prompting a large emergency response.

According to reports from the Los Angeles County Fire Department, the fire was first reported shortly before 9:30 a.m. Wednesday near Las Virgenes Road and Mulholland Highway. Officials stated that dry brush and windy conditions helped fuel the blaze as firefighters quickly deployed both ground crews and aerial resources to slow the spread of the flames.

Authorities reported that the fire initially burned approximately five acres within the first stages of the incident, though crews continued monitoring hotspots and changing conditions throughout the afternoon. Helicopters and water-dropping aircraft were seen making repeated passes over the hillside terrain while firefighters established containment lines near residential areas.

Residents throughout Agoura Hills, Calabasas, and surrounding communities reported seeing large plumes of smoke visible for miles across western Los Angeles County. Emergency officials urged residents to remain alert and avoid the area to allow firefighting crews clear access to containment zones.

Traffic disruptions were also reported along portions of Las Virgenes Road and nearby routes as emergency responders secured the scene and monitored conditions near homes and brush-covered hillsides.

At this stage, authorities have not yet reported injuries or structural damage connected to the Jasper Fire. Investigators are expected to examine the cause of the blaze once containment operations stabilize.

Southern California continues facing elevated wildfire danger due to dry vegetation, warm temperatures, and changing winds, conditions that have kept firefighters on high alert throughout the region.
