TANGIPAHOA PARISH, Louisiana — Authorities in Tangipahoa Parish are investigating a tragic late-night crash that claimed the life of 6-month-old Kaybri Robinson of Hammond, Louisiana, while leaving multiple others injured and resulting in the arrest of the vehicle’s driver on multiple charges, including vehicular homicide.
According to Louisiana State Police Troop L, the fatal single-vehicle crash occurred at approximately 11:50 p.m. Friday, May 22, 2026, along U.S. Highway 51 just south of Louisiana Highway 1064 near Tickfaw. Troopers stated that a 2013 Hyundai Elantra driven by 25-year-old Resjyne N. Griffin of Hammond was traveling northbound when, for reasons still under investigation, the vehicle traveled off the roadway, entered a ditch, and struck a culvert.
Investigators reported that Griffin was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash and sustained moderate injuries. Two young passengers inside the vehicle were also reportedly unrestrained. A 5-year-old child suffered moderate injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment. Kaybri Robinson, who was only six months old, was also transported to a nearby hospital, where she later died from injuries sustained in the collision.
Louisiana State Police stated that during the investigation, Griffin allegedly showed signs of impairment and was subsequently arrested. Authorities confirmed she will face charges including vehicular homicide, vehicular negligent injury, no child restraint, careless operation, open container, and driving without a license once released from medical treatment. Toxicology samples were collected as part of the ongoing investigation.
The heartbreaking death of Kaybri Robinson has generated an emotional response throughout Hammond and surrounding Tangipahoa Parish communities, where friends, relatives, and local residents have expressed sorrow over the loss of such a young life. Social media throughout the weekend of May 23–24, 2026, became filled with condolences, prayers, and memorial messages honoring the infant’s memory.
Louisiana State Police also used the tragedy to emphasize the importance of child restraint systems and seatbelt use, noting that properly installed child safety seats significantly reduce the risk of serious injury or death during crashes. Troopers urged motorists to avoid impaired driving and ensure all vehicle occupants are properly restrained before traveling.
As of Sunday, May 24, 2026, the crash remains under active investigation by Louisiana State Police Troop L. Funeral and memorial arrangements for Kaybri Robinson had not yet been publicly announced. Family members continue receiving support and condolences from members of the wider Louisiana community during this devastating time of grief and remembrance.
