Gulfport Police Investigating Shooting Incident Following Heavy Emergency Response

Gulfport authorities are continuing to investigate multiple recent shooting incidents that have unfolded across the Mississippi Gulf Coast, including an officer-involved shooting at an apartment complex on Three Rivers Road that left two people injured and prompted involvement from the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation. Officials confirmed the incident occurred Friday, May 22, as Gulfport Police officers responded to a developing situation at the complex before gunfire erupted.

According to investigators, emergency crews and law enforcement units quickly flooded the area after reports of shots fired. Witnesses described a chaotic scene with flashing lights, officers securing nearby streets, and residents being urged to remain indoors while the investigation unfolded. Authorities later confirmed that the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation had taken over the inquiry into the officer-involved aspect of the case.

The Gulfport area has experienced several violent incidents in recent months, contributing to growing public concern over gun-related crime and emergency responses throughout Harrison County. Earlier this month, Gulfport police announced the arrest of Christopher Charles Clark, 34, in connection with a separate aggravated assault shooting near Polk Street and Alabama Avenue. Investigators said the incident allegedly stemmed from an ongoing dispute between the suspect and the victim.

Additional investigations have also included shootings on Henderson Avenue, Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, and Steeplechase Drive, with law enforcement agencies continuing efforts to identify suspects and strengthen patrol operations throughout Gulfport neighborhoods.

Officials have not yet released complete details regarding the circumstances that led to the latest officer-involved shooting, including whether additional arrests are expected or if more victims were injured during the confrontation. Authorities say detectives are reviewing evidence, witness statements, and available surveillance footage as part of the active investigation.

Community members across Gulfport have taken to social media expressing concern about the rise in violent incidents while also urging residents to avoid spreading unverified information online. Police departments and emergency officials continue asking anyone with firsthand knowledge, photos, or video connected to the shootings to cooperate with investigators.

The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation is expected to provide further updates as the inquiry progresses and more verified information becomes available
