BOZEMAN, Montana — A deadly early-morning shooting outside a downtown Bozeman bar has left one person dead and resulted in the arrest of 22-year-old Jakob Steven Lundberg, according to multiple Montana news reports and law enforcement information released Monday, May 25, 2026.
The shooting reportedly occurred shortly before 12:45 a.m. near the popular Rocking R Bar in downtown Bozeman. According to the Bozeman Police Department, officers responded at approximately 12:44 a.m. after receiving reports that a person had been shot and that the suspect had fled the area in a vehicle.
When officers arrived, they located the victim suffering from gunshot wounds and immediately began life-saving efforts before emergency medical personnel transported the victim to Bozeman Health Deaconess Hospital. Authorities later confirmed the victim died from injuries sustained during the shooting. The identity of the deceased had not yet been publicly released as of Tuesday morning.
Investigators stated the suspect was quickly located, stopped, and taken into custody shortly after the shooting. Based on the preliminary investigation, police arrested Jakob Steven Lundberg, who was later booked into the Gallatin County Detention Center. Jail records show Lundberg is facing charges including:
