LAS VEGAS, Nevada — Viral social media posts falsely claiming that Raiders veteran quarterback Kirk Cousins had been arrested on suspicion of manslaughter following an alleged firearm-related altercation have been confirmed to be unverified and unsupported by credible evidence.
The rumor began spreading rapidly online Sunday after posts circulating on X, Threads, and other social media platforms alleged Cousins had been taken into custody. Much of the confusion stemmed from a post published by an account impersonating ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter. The account name was misspelled and did not match Schefter’s verified official profile.
Despite the widespread circulation of the claim, there has been:
- no police confirmation,
- no arrest record,
- no court filing,
- no NFL statement,
- and no reporting from major verified outlets such as ESPN, NFL Network, CBS Sports, FOX Sports, NBC, or the Associated Press.
At the same time, recent legitimate coverage continues showing Cousins participating in Las Vegas Raiders offseason activities and team-related events throughout May 2026.
Sports misinformation involving fake insider accounts has become increasingly common online, especially surrounding high-profile athletes and breaking-news situations. Many viral posts are intentionally designed to imitate trusted journalists or sports networks in order to generate engagement and spread rapidly before being verified.
Several social media users quickly pointed out inconsistencies within the viral rumor, including the fake account handle and the absence of any supporting law enforcement documentation or mainstream news coverage.
As of Sunday evening, there remains no credible evidence supporting claims that Kirk Cousins was arrested or involved in a manslaughter investigation. The circulating reports appear to be false and part of a broader wave of sports-related misinformation spreading online.
